Concept and Vision
The Studio in the Pines draws inspiration from the intricate, protective and transformative nature of a cocoon. Envisioned as a delicate chrysalis nestled amidst the forest, the structure begins as an extension of the forest floor, gently unfolding to reveal its unique, contemporary expression. The cocoon embodies a dialogue between structure and nature.
The protective CLT shell encapsulates a warm, inviting interior, designed to be open and fluid, providing spaces that inspire movement and contemplation. The interior is minimally adorned, acting as a blank canvas that invites light and shadow to dance across its surfaces. Rainwater is collected through a green roof above the garage and stored, nurturing life around the Cocoon.
The Studio in the Pines is a place where time slows, allowing the soul to rest and rejuvenate – a symbolic representation of transformation
